(r.e.) remarks on colour presents a re-reading of two works: Gary Hill’s video Remarks on Color (1994) and Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Remarks on Colour (1951). In this work, my mother appears reading Wittgenstein’s text much like Hill’s daughter. Like Hill's daughter, my mother struggles, but her accent and voice communicate a difficulty predicated on subjectivity, which is obscured by her position in the frame. Here, colour acts as a code that constructs identity through culture and language.
